Lia's Wings corporate partner, Carbon60, raised £2,000 at their annual golf day, hosted at The Warwickshire Golf & Country Club.
Being invited to attend as the company’s charity partner for the second year running, it was a fantastic opportunity to further raise funds, and awareness of our work with the Carbon60 staff, and the 70 guests they had in attendance on the day.
After a hearty breakfast of bacon sandwiches, and explanations of the rules – “Texas Scramble” linked to the latter rather than the former – teams headed out fuelled by coffee and dreams of sub-par scores.
Although a slightly dreary start, the weather soon brightened up, and with it, the golfer’s day! Lia’s Wings was lucky enough to be chauffeured around the course in buggies to see the teams in action, delivering vital refreshments to those in need… and collecting a few donations at the same time.
Whilst most teams took on the 18-hole course, it was great to see a contingent of first-time golfers also taking part in an academy session, including playing a round on a pretty challenging par three course after a few lessons from the club pro, and an hour on the range.
What was most apparent during the course of the event however was not just a passion for golf, but also a real passion to support Lia’s Wings, a sentiment shared by Paul Nolan, the Managing Director of Carbon60:
"Lia’s Wings was a stand-out choice when we put the vote to Carbon60 employees for a charity partner some years ago. I have now met Lia’s family on a number of occasions and our desire to support the life-saving work the charity does could not be stronger. The Carbon60 Golf Day was an opportunity to spread the word to a much wider audience and ask our clients who were enjoying our hospitality to dig deep and help support the wonderful work Lia’s Wings undertakes. I would like to thank all of our clients who attended for their generous support.”
Throughout the day the golfers had been purchasing raffle tickets, with some fantastic prizes offered up by the Carbon60 Team, including hotel stays, free rounds of golf, and some all-important replacement golf balls as although it was a lovely course, there were plenty of water hazards! We were delighted to present the winners with their prizes, and for a few lucky people, it was the perfect end to another wonderful day in aid of Lia’s Wings.
In total, the day raised £2,052, a phenomenal effort showcasing the generosity of the attendees, but also a testament to how much hard work and effort the Carbon60 team put into arranging the event.
Chris Massarella, Head of Fundraising at Lia’s Wings, said:
“It was wonderful to see everyone in such good spirits on the day, and it really was apparent just how much it means to everyone at Carbon60 to be supporting our amazing charity. There were lots of familiar faces there, and it was great to see that so many of the golfers knew so much about Lia’s Wings already.
"The fantastic amount raised was really the icing on the cake to a wonderful afternoon, and we can’t say thank you enough to the Carbon60 team, and all the guests on the day for their support and generosity – it means the world to us”.
We would like to say another huge thank you to everyone at Carbon60 for their ongoing support, as it is days like this that really make our partnership special. We are keeping our fingers crossed to be invited back next year… there is even talk of a Lia’s Wings team participating (we will get practicing)!
